The final stage of the "Stirnu buks" season will take place in the Madona district

On Saturday, October 12th, in the Smecere Forest, the beloved folk trail running series "Stirnu buks" will host its 2024 season finale. This race promises to be memorable with the highest hills of the Vidzeme Uplands and the landscapes near Madona blending with the Lubāna Plain.

Stirnu buks returns to its native forest in the Tukums region

On September 14th, the penultimate stage of the "Stirnu buks" trail running series will take place in the Tukums region, marking a return to its native grounds. The courses will lead through the hills and winding paths of the Tukums district forests. Organizers describe this stage as rough and technical, yet simultaneously beautiful and soulful, much like the main course planner, known as "Shoko" or Gints Konošonoks.

Mysterious Magic of Irbene: Coastal Stirnu Buks Invites You to a Running Adventure On the Livonian Coast

The 5th stage of the 2024 season of "Coastal Stirnu Buks" will take place on August 17 in Irbene, Ventspils district. As usual, the race day will begin at 10:00 with participants of the ENEFIT hiking distances, who will spend their time on the trail without rushing or time control.

Participants will have the opportunity to experience the craft of weaving

The "Stirnu buks" trail run will hold its 4th stage on July 6th in the picturesque and inspirational Vecpiebalga region. In addition to the usual distances for runners, hikers, and Nordic walkers, there will also be an opportunity to watch the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament semi-finals together, where we hope to see the Latvian team.

On May 25th in Dubuļi, the third stage of the "Stirnu buks" trail running series for the 2024 season, known as "Dubuļu Styrnu buks," will take place, marking two significant events: the return to Latgale after an eight-year hiatus, and the 2024 Latvian championship in ultra-long trail running discipline!

Valuable information to keep in mind for participants of the distance "GARMIN FĒNIX Vilks"!

The challenging "GARMIN FĒNIX Vilks" distance will take us to our neighbors in Suur Munamägi, which will be the start of the longest distance of this "GJENSIDIGE Stirnu buks 2023" season. The length of distance is approximately 86 km.

The 1st stage date has been changed!

The beginning of the 10th season has brought us various challenges, which have forced us to change the venue of the competition for the first time in the history of Stirnu buks. However, these are far from the only changes affecting us in preparation for the new 2023 season. Respecting our days of remembrance and taking into account that March 25th is the day of remembrance of the victims of the Communist genocide, we have made a decision to move the Sila priežu Stirnu Buks a day later, to March 26th.

New distances also for hikers WITHOUT time control

Yes, we do know that classic marathon runners can be quite arrogant towards trail runners who are not so quick, as they are told to be just strolling in the forest instead of running, and trail runners look with suspicion on hikers because they are just forest tourists! Of course, this is quite an overstatement and we, a large majority of Roe bucks are not like this, are we?

“Gjensidige Roe buck” about to jump into its 10th season!

August 22nd, 2014 marks the birth of trail running culture in Latvia – its members proudly call themselves “roe bucks” for a tenth year already! In 2018 journalist Gunita Nagle wrote for the magazine “Ir”: “Just as pagans, most of the Latvian trail runners celebrate the beginning of a new year in spring. However, this is marked not by the solstice, but by the first stage of the trail run series “Roebuck”. The anticipation of upcoming events is incomparable to those of Christmas or even Summer Solistice. Excitement often goes hand in hand with a drop of self-doubt – am I physically ready for the heights to come?

Season cards of the trail run series “Gjensidige Stirnu buks” (Roe Buck) for 2023 and gift cards are available as of today! The new Our Forest trail running season is not far away and preparations should be started in good time! We truly hope that the next season will be the first complete season during the last four years running from the end of March until the beginning of October with no interruptions. At the same time, this will be the tenth (!!!) anniversary season of the trail running series!
