Last time we ran around here was in 2016. What has changed since then? We were pleasantly surprised when we checked up on it last autumn - the complex has grown even bigger, beautiful Baldone story trails have been merked, the active people of the surrounding area nearly made a buzzing soudn - it was that crowded on a not too nice autumn day! Let's see what hills and forests the fresh trails of Riekstukalns surroundings will show us this time. It's widely known that Baldone was once more widely known for its healing resources. Thanks to its healing mud and mineral springs, Baldone has historically been both the largest sulfur and climatic resort in the Russian Empire and a resort of all-Union importance. As a testament to this, the sulfur spring “Ķirzaciņa” is still chilling in Lilac Park in Baldone - don't forget to refill your drinking systems before the competition! Baldoni is surrounded by hills, the highest of which is Riekstukalns. Here, surrounded by forests, you can watch the stars in the 12th largest observatory in Europe, indulge in exciting winter and forest trail sports.
A long time ago, the Riekstukalns area was suggested to us as a possible venue for the trail run series and Mairis Levans from the Vivus.lv MTB marathon bike series, being a true friend of the "Roe buck" team, shared his advice unselfishly! Twe also send our warmest "Thank you!" to the people of the active recreation complex Riekstukalns, who kindly share their treasures with the trail runners - the largest downhill skiing and snowboarding complex in the Baltics with an added bonus of being located in the immediate vicinity of Riga!
