Although we have been running in Tērvete forest several times, we cannot deny that this still amounts to our favourite location for trail runs, as it is in the green middle part of Latvia where the ancient worlds of Semigalians, folklore and literature images meet! Also this time the race centre will be at the place where Roe bucks have not been until now, in particular, in the corner of the LVM nature park, near a pine forest and Tērvete pond!

We will experience both travel to nature and travel to the history of Latvia in the Tērvete forest. LVM nature park Tērvete is among the places favoured by tourists and the most family-friendly in Latvia. The beginnings of the nature park of the Latvian State Forests date back to year 1958 when the first walking trails were constructed at the place where now the Sun feelings park is located. At present, the territory of the nature park stretches up to 1200 ha and one-third of this is occupied by Fairy-tale land.

The literature contribution by the Latvian writer Anna Brigadere can be felt in the park territory, therefore the traditional part of the park is referred to as Sprīdītis park [Sprīditis is a famous image in fairy tales by Anna Brigadere). Wooden sculptures presenting images from fairy tales and the plays by Anna Brigadere: Sprīdītis and Lutausis, the Forest King with his court, Annele with friends and “live” fairy-tale images can be seen and met in the park. If you would like to have a famous photo from Tērvete, you should know that Lutausis and Sprīdītis are on the left bank of the river Tērvete, up along stairs from the Playground.

And if you would like to see the culture-historical centre of Tērvete, to feel the power of the ancient Semigalian tribes, we recommend sparing some time and to visit the  XII century wooden castle of Tērvete, the three castle mounds of Tērvete and the recently reconstructed Kalnmuiža castle ruins.

See you in Tērvete!
