The trail run “Opekalna baznīca Stirnu buks” will take the racers to the area of protected landscape  “Veclaicene” by enjoying the local “grand hills” – Ķauķu kalns, Dēliņkalns and Opekalns.

Veclaicene.lv:: “In the hilly part of Alūksne highland in the North-East of Latvia, approximately 180 km from the capital Riga, near the border of Estonia there is a beautiful place with lakes, hills, meadows and forests. Summers in this region are shorter than elsewhere in Latvia, therefore, they and, in particular, Stirnu buks races in the middle of summer are very much awaited events. Winters are longer and colder, more rich in snow. This protected nature territory covers Veclaicene, Jaunlaicene, Ziemers and Ape parishes where we live- the naive, still stubborn Malenians and slow, yet active Estonians.”

It should be pointed out that during this stage we will also organise the “cherry on the cake” event” – the race of 4  towers (Suur Munamägi observation tower, Reuge observation tower “Pesapuu”, Paganamaa observation tower, Dēliņkalns observation tower)   – for the toughest Roe Bucks or Wolves - the participants of the longest distance will not only experience the hospitality of the Malenians, they will also enjoy the mild and friendly area on the edge of the wall Veru district in Southern Estonia for a large part of the distance!
