In the Abava ancient valley near the welcoming active recreation centre Zviedru cepure we were jumping once in the very beginnings of this series in the far-away year 2015! We will return to the attractive Abava Valley this year again, however, we will run in another region of this valley, in particular, Sabila and its neighbourhood!
The nature park "Abava Ancient Valley" stretches along the ancient valley shaped by the waters from melting glaciers, this is referred to as the Abava Ancient Valley or Switzerland of Kurzeme, where there are impressive rivers, meadows slope landscapes and also geological monuments.
We have chosen to place the race centre in Sabile, which is a picturesque town of Kurzeme and whose unique feature is the Wine Hill with its relative height of 33.7m (approximately 115 m above sea level). A bunch of grapes is also the symbol of this town presented in the coat of arms of the city and thanks to the grape Sabile has been included in the Guinness Book of Records as the most Northern wineyard where grape grows in nature.
Nature itself has made the Abava Valley as one of the most beautiful spots in Latvia. The Abava River flows via romantic bends and green forests, along ancient towns, homely rural villages, refreshing small waterfalls and secret caves and brings joy and excitement to every tourist and visitor. The ancient valley is 2 km wide and approximately 30 m deep. The Abava River is 124 km long now.
Let’s take into account that this is a protected nature area and it is a special privilege to stay in the nature park "Abava Ancient Valley"! Let’s not deviate from the labelled trail, respect the environment and the rules here helping to preserve the beauty around us.
