To Tukums for Beauty and Heart-Lifting Hills

Tukums, a small town surrounded by gardens on the edge of Kurzeme, is known for its expressive verticals in a hilly landscape—church towers and the chimneys of the old distillery. Here, in the forests of Pietukums, near Āžu Hill, the dynamic "Stirnu Buks" trail running series began eleven years ago!

After two relatively calm and gentle stages in Piebalga and Ventspils, Mūsmežs returns with heart-lifting hills and some elevation! This time, the loops of the trails are not in the usual Āžu and Milzkalns surroundings but rather in the forests on the other side of the Tukums-Engure highway, near Sveikuļi and Sēme.

The organizers did not venture further than the legendary "Vella Kilometers" of the "Sveikuļu Night" race, where the Mountain King and Queen sprint stage will take place this time! A big thanks to Ivars Liepiņš, the Executive Director of the Tukums Municipality, for showing the area of his native Sēme forest and especially to the enthusiasts of the Tukums Enduro Motoclub for lending their trails!

It should be noted that once a year, in the Pietukums forests, our faithful Trail Chief ‘wakes up’! This is his stage, and while our Forest Elder usually maintains the trails in the Tukums forests, Gints Konošonoks, better known as Šoko to most Mūsmežs inhabitants, is responsible for all the twists and turns of the trails and takes great pride in what he does!

Rumor has it among trail runners that the distances will be rough and technical but beautiful, just like Šoko's face!

And once the Pietukums forests have been enjoyed, we invite everyone to "Taste the Autumn in Tukums!" as part of the home café days (see more in the "Offers" section on your profile page). And if you stay overnight, Sunday is a great day to visit our tribal mark at the foot of Āžu Hill and enjoy a few laps of the "Vilkaču Marathon" right there!
