My soul is singing. It does...
The strength of solstice, bright meadows presenting beautiful smells in Piebalga, a cultural-historical territory in the Vidzeme Highland, is famous thanks to its craftsmen and traders since ancient times and a high number of writers, poets, and other creative persons later on.

The centre of the competition will be located in the countryside exposition “Vēveri” of the Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum and we will stay at a location of farmer-craftsmen homesteads characteristic for Piebalga, its history dates back to the middle of the 16th century. In the 19th century, the main source of income in Vēvery was weaving; there were 2-4 operating looms in each homestead. As the “Time of the Land Surveyors” (1870-ies- 1880-ies) started, when the people of Piebalga bought their land from the manor, eight farms got established in Vēveri: Kalna Vēveri, Lielvēveri, Lejas Vēveri, Streinvēveri, Jaunvēveri, Vecvēveri, Mazvēveri and Virolvēveri. Nowadays, the layout and construction of the recently renovated Vēveri watermill can be seen there.

Visitors can have their worsted woven in the cloth prepared at the "Vēveri" loom. They can also see the ancient carriages, horse harnesses, plows, and harrows used in this region and displayed now in the barn and learn more about the renovated Vēveri watermill. In the backyard of the “Lielvēveri” homestead, there is a display of herbs and flowers cultivated in Piebalga.

The outdoor exposition “Vēveri” is among the few ones in Latvia that display the natural environment without modification. Over a distance of 1.5 kilometers, a specially constructed path leads to Slieķi Lake via butterfly orchid meadows.
