Jaunakmenė Stirnu Buks – For the First Time Entirely ‘Outdoors’!

This year’s Stirnu Buks running series will make history with a special milestone – for the first time. The race will take place entirely “outdoors” – beyond the territorial borders of Latvia!

Since we promised to trace the footsteps of the Semigallians, who in the 13th century fled to what is now Lithuania under the pressure of Christian armies, it’s only fitting to venture deeper into Lithuanian territory – to Jaunakmenė!

Jaunakmenė Sandstone Quarries – Natural Harmony and Historic Imprints

The Jaunakmenė sandstone quarries are a true gem for nature and geology enthusiasts. Here, majestic landscapes and unique sandstone formations merge with a serene atmosphere, offering a retreat and an escape from daily life.

Why Visit the Jaunakmenė Quarries?

Impressive Landscapes and Sandstone Formations
The Jaunakmenė quarries amaze with their sandstone cliffs, showcasing layered sediment textures and nature-sculpted formations. These features are masterpieces of wind and water, which have created this unique terrain over time.

Geological Richness and Educational Value
This location is a dream for geology lovers – the sandstone layers hold evidence of millions of years of history. Every visitor can explore the Earth's development and the natural stories this site generously offers.

An Unforgettable Adventure

However, this quarry is not open to everyone – it is still active and operates 24/7. It’s a customarily restricted area where active industrial work still takes place. Straight out of a ‘Star Wars’ scene, giant machines can be seen here every day! In 50 years, this place is set to become a stunning recreational complex, but for now – let’s seize the moment!

See you at the Jaunakmenė sandstone quarries – where nature and history meet!
